Most of my jewelry training was on the job in commercial settings in Texas. For a number of years I worked next to people who had been in the jewelry business all their lives and were generous enough to pass on their knowledge to an eager learner. Because those who taught me were so, versatile, my technical skills include fabrication in all precious metals, a vast range of stone setting and all aspects of casting, model and mold making.
MATERIALS
Recently I have been working with materials that are new to me; ebony, memory wire and cast organic materials. I've attempted to combine these items with more traditional processes in creative ways to put together a line of jewelry that is distinctive and unique in its design.
NECKLACES: All necklaces are strung on high strength beadalon cord and provided with a custom silver clasp. They are 18" long unless otherwise specified.
EBONY: All the ebony used is recycled, either from old piano key blanks or scraps from a woodworker and box maker in Pennsylvania.
CORAL BEADS: The red coral beads are bamboo coral. They are dyed. Actual red coral is endangered and is disappearing from our oceans.
PEARLS: All pearls are cultured pearls. Unless noted, they are not dyed.
LEAVES and LACE: All the leaves and lace are originally cast from actual organic materials.
MEMORY WIRE: Memory wire is exactly what its name implies, a wire with enough memory to spring back to its original shape after being straightened. It is covered with flexible black tubing. It requires no clasp and one size actually does fit all.
EARRINGS: All earring posts are 14K gold. All earring wires are sterling silver. Some earrings styles can be altered to accommodate clips. |
