Mary Sobrina Kuder

Mary Kuder's life…beginning from a very early age has been devoted to various artistic practices. Mixed media painting, printmaking, textiles, and performance art.

She believes in embracing life and it's many aspects , thus her varied and combined artistic tools......this makes for the rich canvas that is her life and her art.

The decorative and wearable textiles are Kuder's own unique view as a painter to the sensual art of textiles. Most of the pieces are figurative in subject drawn from live models in her extensive performance community and travels around the world. The abstracts pieces were created during a period of time she spent living with the Pitjantjatjara and Dungati aboriginal peoples of central and coastal Australia.

She begins on white silk canvas stretched on stretcher bars. She paints by brush with oils, oil and dye washes which she makes from raw pigments. The pieces take from several weeks to several months. They are then unstretched , sewn by hand and hung in the contemporary style of textile wall hanging.

These one of a kind works are intended to be sensual, expressive, and playful, both in subject and in use of color and form. Her use of color is legendary. Whether used to create a focal point in a room, a colorful soft sculpture, or to adorn the body......these striking paintings will create a unique statement and delight the senses and spirit.
