Linda Savitz

Linda Savitz is originally from the Los Angeles area, she resides at the moment in Grass Valley, California. And with her thirty plus diverse years in the arts and creativity, she continues to explore, she continues to build and create...the “Layers of Life”. In the mid seventies, she attended College of the Arts of Long Beach State University, studying Photography and Design. Stopped short after two years, with camera and brush in hand, she ventured out to explore, discover, create and live the worlds and ways of Asia, India and Europe in the late seventies into the eighties.

In 1982, she stepped back into the west as a designer and creator of Fine Wearable Art. For 8 years, her pieces sold in retail and catalogs nationally and were shown in selected galleries and art shows. The process of ideas, concepts, mediums and techniques continued to expand, even explode as she came back to working in a large format surreal style paintings of oil on canvas. This continued for a few years showing as well as selling to those becoming her collectors, this work still shows up from time to time, at times in form, at times in the formless, waiting. Her art changed and evolved along with lives process into assemblage works around the symbol of the cross for a period of time. As the year 2000 came, she re-connected with her passion for photography, capturing the moment, the fine art of portraiture, photojournalism, the surreal landscape and the abstract of repetition.

"When the play, the subject appears, the unfoldment and sense for the bold, the perspective revealed, the unusual eye catching angle of a natural composition captured from a different view, the interplay and use of color, the simplicity and mystery of the black and the white, the form and the formless plays with contrast... that excites me!"

Linda's images capture this and finds it's way into her Graphic Design sense, life, and as a result all coming together in the studio with her latest paintings / mixed medium works, of Buddha Boards. With over 200 original pieces collected and out in the world, they indeed have a presence. "Each piece moves thru me as a process of literally, layers upon layers on layers, building and growing. Combining spirit, wood, paint, texture, photography, print, the written word, the known and the unknowing.

Revealing what is, all that is. Lives Layers. With all the contrasts, the ease and complexities, and to come upon and discover the middle ground, between. Only to come back to the one."
