My work has always involved juxtaposition of text with image. When I discovered printmaking in 1990, I found I could finally fully integrate the two, using collage, stencils, layering and various plates. Using text, English or otherwise, I add a second, contemplative dimension to the imagery which is already quiet and refined. The resulting atmosphere pleases me, whether it be accomplished by muted or saturated color. My studies in the Orient and my marriage to a Buddhist priest have helped nurture a contemporary Asian aesthetic in my work.
These are all original works of art. They are made one by one on a press, using a variety of techniques. I use Master Printers for technical assistance when working on the press and to process the etching and collograph plates. The four kinds of prints that I create are: MONOTYPES, COLLOGRAPHS, LINOCUTS, ETCHINGS.
Materials used are oil-based inks, fine French print papers, fine Japanese papers and antique papers. I often add color by way of a monotype or collage underneath the linocuts and etchings. All work is lightfast, acid free and framed with museum quality materials. |
