Carol Twombly "Pseudo Scripts"
Carol Twombly, designer of a number of internationally acclaimed typefaces (i.e. fonts) during her tenure at Adobe Systems, Inc.,* is newly intrigued by African and Cuban percussion as well as letterforms and manuscripts. Carol's recent works on paper reflect this interest in rhythm. Though not calligraphic in a traditional sense, they are an exploration of the underlying rhythm and flow vital to both calligraphy and drumming. In an era already chock full of "information" these captured motions, though evocative of words, are instead abstractions that point to writings' meaningfulness, or lack of it - being simply an interplay of marks that create textures and movement on the page. See Carol's Shekere's here...>>* see www.adobe.com/typelibrary for more information on Twombly's typeface designs. |
